YAY!!! Today is EXTUBATION DAY!!! Mommy is here this morning. She's prayed hard and hope I fly on CPAP. I think i'm a big girl now. 3rd time is the charm! I hope i don't earn the breathing tube back so that mommy and daddy will be happy.
Before extubation this afternoon, I needed a new PIV early this orning because my hematocrit is 29 and i need another blood transfusion before they take out my breathing tube. VAT came and was able to one on my right hand. The blood with surely help me with my oxygenation.
Around 2:30pm, Dr. S came at bedside to get ready for extubation. We are extubating to a CPAP of 8 @ 60% and hopefully wean the oxygen to the 40's before night shift get here. I freaked out for about 30min when they transitioned me to CPAP but I slowly got used to it. I was breathing a little hard at 1st but I slowly got used to doing the work on my own. Mommy was very very happy. Such a big milestone for me today! Mommy was texting daddy until he came to see me after work.
Since today is also monday, it is eye exam day! Man, today is such a big day! so many things going on. Dr. B came after I was extubated and told mommy that i still have mild ROP but since I have gotten so much bigger that it is looking like hopefully I can just outgrow my ROP. He will continue to check my eyes weekly until we are safe.
